Lucía, a multidisciplinary artist based in New York, has blended her formal art education with self-taught practice and an insatiable curiosity. A crafter at heart, she developed a unique style by combining painting with needlework crafts to create abstract art.

In her work, Lucía juxtaposes needlework, often referred to as women’s craft, with traditional mediums to highlight the significance of textile crafts throughout history. The thread, which literally and figuratively connects everyone’s lives, serves as a powerful metaphor for the interconnectedness of all things. ARTIST STATEMENT

I never fully appreciated the beauty of the world until something threatened that beauty, like a pandemic.

I invite you to be more present, savor the beauty of sunsets, slow down, and appreciate the fragrance of flowers. Don’t take anything or anyone for granted. Approach each day with curiosity. Soon, you’ll realize that my paintings capture colorful, magical moments and lighthearted memories. I use acrylics because they dry quickly, and I’m a fast talker. I use inks to add emphasis and rhythm, 3D textures to create references, and glitter to add sparkle. Last but not least, needlework, because thread holds our lives together literally and figuratively. If you don’t believe me, just turn your shirt inside out—you’ll see!

COLOR

Some colors are meant to come to life unintentionally, yet they still possess a magical quality, like a shooting star streaking across the sky.

TEXTURE

Textures evoke emotions. It’s up to you to interpret and experience them as you wish.

Each layer is a story waiting to be told, a memory yearning to be recalled.

TOGETHER, WITH BLOOM

New York City was woven together by immigrants. Their resilience allowed them to thrive despite being isolated, pushed to hidden corners where they were often overlooked.

Using their manufacturing skills, they created opportunities and jobs, building the Garment District from the ground up. Piece by piece, stitch by stitch, this area blossomed into the centerpiece of the Fashion Industry.

Sadly, the Garment District is now nearing extinction. New regulations threaten to erase what little remains.

Yet, no matter how hard they try, history cannot be undone. Some threads are too strong to be broken.

History is repeating itself. Immigrants are still being marginalized, their voices silenced as though they don’t belong.

But the truth is, we do belong here—in this city built by those who came before us.

We may no longer be sewing garments, but we continue to keep this city vibrant and alive.

“Together, we bloom” stands as a powerful counter to hate. It reminds us that love, perseverance, resilience, and positivity allow us to grow and transform hardship into beauty.

Love heals, nurtures, and helps seeds take root, blossom, and thrive.
